Port Day #3

Day 6, Monday, January 8, 2024, Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras, Central America

Photos: I love the cruise days when I'm able to see the harbor pilot arrive to guide us safely into port. My elder son, now 50, spent two of his college years at the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. He learned much about the sea and the shipping industry. I listened raptly any time he wanted to share some of his knowledge with me. So, when I cruise, I'm always sending him photos I take, and proudly letting him show off some of his knowledge to his mama. These were taken at 6:45 this morning, as we awaited the arrival of the harbor pilot.

My day started with a quick bowl of cereal at 6:30, and a Himalayan salt stone massage at 8:00. Now I'm waiting for Jas to return from his massage so we can decide what activity will be next on our agenda.

We lunched in the Lido Market. Then we went ashore, walking around the port area, where there are lots of little tchotchke shops. Jas just wanted to find a bar where he could contribute to the local economy by buying a beer. Alas, no bars were in that area. We went back to the ship, going up to the Crow's Nest so Jas could get that drink he wanted and I could work on one of the many puzzles set out. I got a lot of work done on a difficult puzzle, and went back to our room about 4:00.

Let the record show Jas played zero pickleball today. It was just too darned hot! I'm happy to be away from the NE Ohio cold for this two weeks, but there's a limit to how hot I want to be. Picky, picky! I do have to be very careful about the sun, as the lower lid blepharoplasty leaves one's cheeks and undereye area susceptible to hyperpigmentation. I'm slathering the 50 SPF sunblock on whenever I go out.

Kerry and Tom had spent the day at a private beach and chose to have a light supper. The rest of us went to Pinnacle Bar for cocktails and the Main Dining Room for dinner. When we arrived, the hostess said she didn't have a table for us in A.A.'s section, and seated us in the aft section where it was dark and loud. We had no sooner sat down that Hendra, the assistant maƮtre d', showed up at our table and asked if we had chosen to sit there. We assured him we were not there by choice, and that we really wanted A.A.'s section. Without his even snapping his finger, we were out of there and seated where we prefered. For me, the room went from dark to bright. We had a fabulous dinner and soaked in the warmth of our favorite server team.

1 and 2) My salad; Jas's Shrimp Crostini appetizer, pronounced by both Jas and Marilyn as excellent. 3) Zucchini Tomato Tart, with Moroccan spiced roasted vegetables and quinoa. 4) Jas's Tri-Tip Beef Tender with Creamed Leeks and Bacon, thyme roasted potatoes and frizzled parsnip. 5) Marilyn's Spaghetti Aglio e Olio with shrimp, parsley, and roma tomato. 6) Diplomat Strawberry Tart with vanilla ice cream and pistachios - selected by Mike and Jan. 7) Opera Cake iwith coffe butter cream - loved by Jas and Marilyn.

Tonight the commedian Jeff Burghart brought his show to the World Stage. He was very enjoyable. He does lots of impersonations and is very good at it. I heard Jas snickering and laughing out loud a few times. If I could stay up that late, I'd be inclined to attend his second show tonight. But I'll just have to see him again in another time and place.

Another lovely day on the Eurodam. Only four more days before we're back in Lauderdale and flying home. I'm going to enjoy every minute remaining in this week.
